What is SWPBIS?School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) is a behavioral intervention program that offers students support at different levels of need and is organized in a multi-tier system. SWPBIS allows for at-risk students to receive more specific and personalized instruction in school-wide behavior expectations than their on-track peers. The data-based program is based on assessing the behavioral risk factors of each student and providing interventions for that student to address the specific identified needs. For students who are at-risk for dropout, schools that use the SWPBIS framework are able to provide differentiated supports to teach the behavioral skills students need to be successful and to stay in school. The tiered system (as shown on the right) provides strategic and individualized interventions for students at risk of dropout. This skill development allows students to increase their engagement in school, leading them to have fewer attendance problems, less office referrals, and more involvement in extracurricular activities connected with staying in school.
